more pics

more pictures . . . I'm excited about the "My Lovely Baby Bump" t-shirt just because it's so funny.
C and I had a lovely date tonight; I was at the library all afternoon and then we met down in the Village and went to see Catie Curtis who we LOVE perform at Joe's Pub. We'd missed her the last few times she's been to New York, so we didn't want to miss her again. I love love love her. Then we walked around a little bit and got ice cream from "Mary's Dairy" since it was so warm out. It was really nice, and I think we appreciated it more than we might normally, simply because we know that we won't have a lot more evenings out like this with a baby and with no money! Speaking of which, I'm a little stressed out because with all the check writing we're doing for the lawyer, the social worker, our day care, birthing classes, etc., we're feeling a bit broke. I have interviewed for 2 different administrative positions as well as a writing fellowship position, and I am just really hoping something works out. Remember: "The Baby Brings its own Sandwich." "There is Abundance in the World." etc.
tomorrow marks 30 weeks. 3/4 of the way there! According to babycenter.com:
How your baby's growing: Your baby's a bit more than 15 1/2 inches long now, and she weighs almost 3 pounds. A pint and a half of amniotic fluid surrounds her, but that volume will decrease as she gets bigger and fills out your uterus. Her eyes open and close, she's able to distinguish between light and dark, and she can even follow a light source back and forth. Once she's born, she'll keep her eyes closed for a good part of the day. When she does open them, she'll respond to changes in light but will have a visual acuity of only 20/400 — which means she can only make out objects a few inches from her face. ("Normal" vision in adults is 20/20.)
and I should be experiencing mood swings (yup), fatigue (not too much), and clumsiness (moi?!?!),

rip off

okay so it turns out we were ripped off when we went to martha stewart . . . some other friends of ours went and they got $100 gift certificates to Ann Taylor (which, by the way, I love!!!!) and all we got was people magazine . . .

29 week visit to the doctor's today . . . our old OB who had quit was there in the office because she is pregnant!!!! She wasn't pregnant when she quit on us, but I guess that was in the plans. We had to wait forever and due to impatience and nerves my blood pressure once again tested high, but when they re-tested it after our appointment, it was back down to normal. The biggest shock was my weight: I gained 12 pounds since our last doctor's visit 5 weeks ago. While I was shocked by this, the doctor didn't act like it was a big deal. She said some people gain a lot of weight in a small amount of time and then it plateaus. I really hope this is the case, because damn! I still have 11 weeks to go. if nothing else, it's good motivation to get back to the pool and start swimming and walking again and trying to eat a bit healthier.

So I've gained a total of 22 pounds now.

This was the first doctor's appointment where we didn't get to see the baby!!!! No sonogram for us today, although we did hear the heartbeat. We were disappointed about the sonogram though, it's been 5 weeks since we've seen Avery and we wanted to know if he's flipped upside down yet.

The stretchmarks on my stomach are quite impressive. My belly looks like a big white beach towel that has been tie-dyed with red swirls.

hiccups

Avery has the hiccups right now. I think. I'm at the Grad center at the computer and I feel this rhythmic bubble feeling on my lower left side. It's very regular and I think it must be hiccups. That's pretty darn cute.

We went to see the Martha Stewart show this morning with some of C's colleagues. It was pretty fun but the show itself seemed like it would be kind of boring to watch on TV (I'd never seen her show before). Molly Shannon came on and did a craft project and she was pretty charming, then Martha roasted garlic, then her daughter and her daughter's friend who have a radio show together came on and took questions from the audience. They seemed really uncomfortable and didn't have anything smart to say when asked about their opinions regarding Don Imus.

But it was still a lot of fun and as audience members, we got stuff! We got this week's issue of People magazine (Because there are pictures from MArtha's trip to Russia in it) and some people got random things (I think leftover prizes from other days) -- C got a hardback novel called "The Diary of an Honest Mum" which is cool cuz it's all about a woman getting pregnant and having a baby. Some people got sponges. I didn't get anything. But they also fed us scones, pita chips and water. All in all, it was worth getting up an hour earlier than normal :)

C and I have "discovered" how great Trader Joe's is. We had been to ones in Michigan and St. Louis but not the one here mostly because it isn't close to where we live and it always seems so crowded. But it is worth the trek and the crowd for CHEAP, healthy groceries and lots of easy to make stuff.

His hiccups are over, I think.

I am in the 3rd trimester officially. I am getting big. We'll put a new picture up here soon.

Right now everything is a bit overwhelming. I've gone on 3 interviews for jobs (well, one is a fellowship position). I have a 2nd interview at one place next week. I'm trying to finish my requirements for my phd program so I can be ABD by summer. And I'm trying to finish up my classes that I'm teaching for the semester. And the hormones have hit me hard. I've been very grouchy and crabby for about 2 weeks now (but it mostly just happens in the evenings when I'm tired . . . of course, that means that C is the only one who suffers due to my irrational crabbiness. I'm trying not to let the hormones take over too much though.
